PROGRESSION -- "ROCKETS DESTROYED THEIR HOME" -- ACRYLIC PAINTING ON CANVAS

Progression -- "Rockets Destroyed Their Home" (was“Gaza Aftermath”), acrylic painting on 24” x 30” canvas, expressionist interpretation of photos from Gaza posted on the internet by Muhammed Kabariti. Having been to Palestine twice, I have some sense about this ...

Done for now ...

Basics are in place. Some work yet ... color, detail, integration.

Still roughing it in, altering content, scale, tone and conception

PROGRESSION - "CELEBRATION AT A MEXICAN COOPERATIVE" - ACRYLIC ON CANVAS

Progression - "Celebration at a Mexican Cooperative" - acrylic painting on 20" x 24" canvas - adapted from my photo in the late '90s ...

I keep tilting toward the expressionists in a more static way -- maybe it's done ... letting it rest

Working out color, content and relationships ... rough but making headway

Roughing it out ...

Thinking it's completed ...

PROGRESSION - "ROAD NEAR THE RARITAN" - HARD AND SOFT PASTELS

Progression -- "Road Near the Raritan" (Changed the name) -- hard and soft pastels on 12" x 18" medium surface paper ... adapted from my early '70s B and W photo ...

Far as I want to go on this road, it's done ...

Though I usually add more edginess, it might be better to leave it softer and more sweeping  ... then again, it might not ...

Basics in place ...

PROGRESSION -- "EDGEWATER VIEW" -- ACRYLIC ON CANVAS

Progression -- working on "Edgewater View," acrylic painting on a 24" x 30" canvas, hearkening back to a late '60s photo of mine, adapted for this -- working on inner space dynamics here with color, shape and perspective as well that may take a moment to see ...

Except for little touchups, it's done ...

Trying shading for shapes and tone ...

Underlay basically painted --

First stage, beginning with color underlays on some of the forms --

TWO STYLES EMERGING IN PASTEL WORK, AND THE ONE I PREFER

I’m seeing two styles now in my work with soft, hard and oil pastels on papers of both toothed and smooth surfaces, the more edgy style in the two works above with more representational colors, and the smoother looking one in the two works below with more adventurous colors. I’m leaning now to continue in the style below.

PROGRESSION -- "SEPTEMBER TREES" -- PASTELS ON SANDED PAPER

Progression -- "September Trees" -- soft and hard pastels on 9" x 12" sanded paper -- a new paper to learn about

So, feels like it's as far as I want to take it now in the progression. Time to let it rest..

Second stage in the learning process -- most of the hard pastel underlay is in place, with a little bit of soft pastel overlay.

Scoping out the forms and tones --
